People usually ask about effective business networking tips and tactics. But business networking is an art in itself. It does not have thumb rule or universally applicable principles like science. Business networking is effective when you do it in creative ways to make yourself stand apart from the rest of the audience. Networking is successful when you do right according to the demands of situation and the people. Creative and sincere networking is, in fact, successful networking. Although networking does not require any thumb rule, yet we can follow certain basics and guidelines which may, at least, make us learn.

Make your purpose clear to you before going to the event. Be prepared and do your home work. You might be going for expanding your business friends’ circle, to learn new ideas or to introduce a new idea of a product or service.

Put your purpose on the business card. If you are looking some clients for your business, you must put your business details on the card. It will help the people remember you.

Always be punctual and arrive the venue at time. Don’t be late as you break the flow of meeting this way. More important reason is that by arriving late you miss the chance of talking to new people before the commencement of meeting. These are few moments when all other attendees are free and alone and looking for someone to talk. Don’t leave the meeting early as well. People who have heard your presentation would want to talk to you about your ideas.

Another tip is to wear your name tag on the right side. By doing so people meeting you and coming across you can see the tag clearly and easily. It also increases the probability for them to retain you in their memory.

Do a firm and open hearted handshake. The very first impression, you will put on the other person, will be through your handshake style. It should be firm enough to show your liveliness but not bone-shaking as well. Nor it should be lose like a wilted or limp fish. Do some preparation and practice handshake with a friend before arriving on the venue.

When you get a chance to speak out, it’s the right time to grab attention and to win the game. While speaking, speak very clearly and concisely. Words should be clear to reach and understood by everyone. Put emphasis on the words or message you think is more important. Respect other people’s time by ending the speech in the given limited time.

While talking to other people or delivering your speech, look around in the room. Make an eye contact with those listening to you but don’t stare. Try to give personal attention to every person in the room.

At the end of business meeting you surely get business cards. But business networking does not mean taking cards from every one and then following up all of them. This is not business. Just follow up those who are of your interest.

New clients are generally developed through the contacts we have made with other people. Business networking meetings and events provide the opportunity to enlarge the contact list especially when we build and cherish quality relations. Networking is not all about attending such events, visiting a networking group, have gossip with many people and collect as many business cards as possible. Business networking is all about building long lasting relationships and the networking events have huge potential for new relationships. Here come some strategies to make profits from networking:

Go for an appropriate networking event according to your interest. Good networking can be done only by attending business conferences, trade exhibitions and business networking events where you expect people of your business category to come. Going on every meeting does not generate good results.

Effective networking does not spell out making relationships with every one at a business meeting. Your focus should be quality instead of quantity. So meet and follow only those who match your interests. You must have seen some people in these events talking to one person while looking around. These people know about the networking rules well they are looking for the next victim actually. They just don’t stick to one person for too long, rather they excuse themselves after ten minutes or so by saying” it was nice meeting you”. Then they move on to the next person of group of their interest. Don’t just go to everyone. Focus on quality of contacts not quantity.

Be prepared to make your first impression everlasting. You have only one chance to build first impression. So do it right because if it’s done wrong, can’t be corrected afterwards. Factors which make up this first impression include your handshake style, your smile, confidence and the overall thoughtfulness. Handshake should be confident and firm to show your openness. Meet people with a true smile on the face and eye contact. Observe their eye color during your introduction. Listen to their introduction carefully and show your interest by asking to repeat their name if they don’t say it loudly. Ask them what they do before telling anything about you. Continue the conversation about their business, give comments and ask details about their business. Show your interest which will create their interest for you.

Talk clearly and concisely about your business. Put emphasis on important words. Prepare an introduction and presentation for your business. Introduction will elaborate what you do actually. It explains that what you exactly have to offer. The intro should be interesting enough for other people to ask questions about your business. When they ask, present your business intro in front of them. But always be genuine and truly honest. Never tell misleading stories as trust is the basic factor for any relation.

Invest on follow up. After the initial meeting you must follow up the people immediately, who you want to continue the relation with. Send handwritten notes to show your willingness and interest in continuing the relation.

The need for such a specialized loan is obvious. Business run by women needs the kind of capital that any other type of business does on an equal basis. Easy Small Business Networking Tips http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/09/easy-small-business-networking-tips/ http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/09/easy-small-business-networking-tips/#comments Thu, 10 Sep 2009 08:53:30 +0000 admin http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/09/easy-small-business-networking-tips/ Easy Small Business Networking Tips

Small business networking can become second nature and easy to do if you follow these simple tips. They are easy ideas to remember and implement not only in your home based business environment but also in your personal life as well.

You will use these techniques quite easily once you get used to them. When you learn how small business networking is done you will be able to increase your home based business influence and revenue.

Some Networking Tips:

* Set Objectives

* Use Business Cards

* Take Notes

* Be Yourself

* Help Each Other

* Stay in Contact

* Grow the Relationship

Set Objectives

Before attending a small business networking event such as the chamber of commerce meeting or trade show set clear objectives. Is your objective to get a new supplier, an employee, more funding or to sell your products or services? Are you looking for a qualified professional to work with?

Write these objectives down so that you will be able to focus on what your most wanted outcome is. Some questions that I ask before an event are: Who do I want to meet? Why do I want to meet them? Will there be enough of these people at the event?

With your objectives in mind you will be able to make the best use of your time while you are attending the event. You will know the people you want to meet and be able to start building a strong relationship.

After the first event, you can continue to use this objective planning strategy to find events that will allow you to meet more of your desired small business networking contacts.

Use Business Cards

A simple small business networking tool is to carry business cards with you at all times. Whether or not you are attending an event, you should never leave your home based business without them.

There are always excellent opportunities to hand out your business card and it is such an easy and inexpensive way to market your home based business. People are always receptive to your business card when it is given in the right atmosphere.

Take Notes

It is very important to remember the people you meet and the conversations that transpired. I take mental notes but as soon as I get a chance I write them down on a notepad that I carry with me. If the person handed you a business card you can jot down some of the notes there first. Then transpose them to your PDA, Business Planner, Notebook or Computer Database.

Taking notes will help you remember your conversations and have information available when you follow up. Get as much information as possible about personal and business information such as birthdays, anniversaries, business interests and hobbies.

All of this information will help you to build strong relationships with people. It will also show them that you were paying attention to the conversation. Check out my article; What did You Say? – Ways to Create Effective Listening Skills for some great information that will help you with your small business networking skills.

Be Yourself

In small business networking your attitude and persona can have a huge impact on how effective you efforts will be. Be sincere and keep the conversation at a low pitch by not trying to oversell your products or services. Remember, they don’t know you yet!

As you continue build your relationship you will be able to find the win-win situation that I talk about in my article; Enhance Your Business Communication Skills.

Once you have a strong relationship you will be in a better position to ask for their help or to be able to offer your help in their business.

Help Each Other

Once you have started a relationship with people listen to their needs. Is there something that you can offer to help them with? There may be a person that you know that you could introduce them to. What about sharing home based business resources such as an attorney or marketing firm?

Small business networking begins with you offering your help, then others are more receptive to giving you their help.

Stay in Contact

Once you have met a business contact it is important to follow up and stay in contact with them. Follow up is the back bone of building a strong small business network. Try to stay in contact as soon as possible after meeting them. The next day would be the best since you are still fresh in their minds.

There are various ways to stay in contact and follow up. Some people may prefer the e-mail approach while a simple phone call may be more effective. You usually don’t have to say more then; “Hi, it was nice to meet you yesterday”. If they had offered a referral thank them (of course after you spoke to the referral).

This might be a good time to send them the information you had spoken about, possibly send them a link to a news article or product that you may have talked about. Also if you had referred them to someone or suggested something you should always follow up so that they will know that you care and are interested in them.

Grow the Relationship

This is the simplest and most fun part small business networking. It will be up to you to continue to contact and grow the relationship. Business networks will thrive if you continue to foster the relationship. Some easy ways could be an invitation to breakfast, lunch, dinner, events or special occasions. A quick phone call or e-mail that has relevance to the relationship can work wonders.

When you stay in contact by reaching out to maintain and grow a relationship, the other person will realize just how sincere and valuable your relationship with them is.

Final Thought:

Small business networking is invaluable to your home based business success. You will find great long term relationships that will keep expanding. A great network is one that is alive and growing daily. These networking tips can be for personal and professional use. Just remember that it is up to you to foster the relationships.

What could she possible mean?

Is she nuts?

For those of you who have been reading the articles I’ve written during our current economic recession, you indeed may be wondering if I’ve lost my marbles. After all, throughout the recession, I’ve been telling you not to lower your prices on products and services.

Why the change in tune?

Because, during a recession, it’s better to keep your prices consistent rather than lower them and appear as if you are chasing the buck. However, during a recovery (which we are now in), you do want to be on the forefront of lowering your prices as money starts flowing and people ease into spending again. As consumer confidence grows, so should your business. And what better way to attract new customers than by offering them a smoking economic recovery deal by lowering your prices temporarily?

Standing on the Cusp of Recovery

Today, we stand on the threshold of economic recovery. According to the September 16th issue of The Wall Street Journal, “Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Tuesday that the recession was ‘very likely over,’ as consumers showed some of the first tangible signs of spending again.” As small business owners, it’s now time to move out from under the cloud of fear and stand beside the banner of recovery.

Do you remember the 1983 film Mr. Mom, starring Teri Garr and Michael Keaton? In the film, Jack (Keaton) and Caroline (Garr) are married with three kids and living in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, during the 1980s recession. As the movie opens, Jack has just lost his job in the auto industry and Caroline has been hired by an ad agency, forcing Jack to trade roles and become a stay-at-home Mr. Mom.

In the movie, Schooner Tuna has hired the ad agency Caroline works for to help them with their poor image and declining sales slump. To do so, Caroline comes up with the fabulous idea of temporarily lowering the price of Schooner Tuna until after the economic crisis is over. In the movie, you see Howard Humphrey, President of Schooner Tuna, telling the American public:

“All of us here at Schooner Tuna sympathize with all of you hit so hard by these trying economic times. In order to help you, we are reducing the price of Schooner Tuna by 50 cents a can. When this crisis is over, we will go back to our regular prices. Until then, remember, we’re all in this together. Schooner Tuna. The tuna with a heart.”

How to Lower Your Prices with Dignity and Strength

1. Create an esprit de corps.

Don’t set yourself apart from your target market. Find a way to connect with them emotionally and show them you are in the same boat with them.

Example: We’ve all been through a lot during this recession and have gone through some tough times.

2. Make sure you use strong wording when lowering your prices.

Don’t be namby-pamby. Let folks know exactly what you are doing in bold, strong language.

Example: We’re slashing the price of our services in half!

3. Be entirely transparent and upfront and tell folks why you are lowing your prices.

Don’t let there be a whiff of anything slightly off about your offer. Let folks know exactly why you are lowering prices.

Example: We know that many of you have wanted to use our services but found our prices were out of your budget.

4. Be crystal clear in your call to action.

Don’t apologize for asking them to take action. Tell them exactly what you want them to do and why you want them to do it.

Example: Check us out again! We’ve dramatically lowered the price on most of our products.

5. Tell folks when you will be going back to your regular prices.

Don’t waffle around about when you will return to regular pricing. Tell them what you’ll be doing and when.

Example: In six months, when the economic crisis is over, we’ll go back to our regular prices.

Today, you are standing on the launch pad of success. The recession is over. The pendulum has just started its swing toward economic recovery. That means that things are about to take off for you as a small business owner and for the world. Now is the time to lower your prices—not six months from now. The moves you make while on the cusp of recovery will determine where you’ll be standing one year from today when our economy is stronger and job security higher.

Being a typical businessman, you will never want to go there where there are minor chances to gather around the response and reasons for sales. Same is the case with business networking too. If you are really serious about building good relationships then it’s important to know that what does exactly the meaning of relationships and how to get the attention of your clients and partners to make better relations. Once you have developed desirable relationship with your specific target market then other three Rs will successfully come into your pocket.

If you invest millions of dollars in your business and still people don’t know about you then it’s useless to invest like this. No one will want to make important deals with you because they don’t trust you and don’t recognize you well. The first and prior thing of your aim is having good reputation among your business community. Once you are successful to obtain the reputation soon you will be aware of this reality that you are now not all alone. Your well reputed image will help you to make high profits and this is just because of having business networking. The more you will mix up inside the networks the more you will be able to boost up your profits so try to enhance your reputation.

May be some people would think that they can collect the information alone and can get the powerful contacts immediately. But sometimes this type of information doesn’t worth your cost and for this purpose you need to have efficient strategy which can provide you desirable information from different resources. In this manner, you should take the help of networking which is the best resource for providing you valuable information. Once you have built your trust and reputation, you can obtain different contacts and beneficiary links out of business networking which would provide utmost success to your business.

There are some networkers who are very efficient to build thousands of active networks in superb manner. If you have developed your relationships with these networkers then you are not far away from your success. They can provide you contacts of up to 50,000 people which is a very big number but can provide you referrals of them for the success of your business. It is possible in one situation, if you are having good relationships with these networkers. After this, no one can stop you from winning whole battlefield. Implement these four Rs as quick as possible in order to have good reputation among business networks through which there are chances that you would become the successful role model for some other companies.

After reading thousands of hands in the hand analysis (non-predictive palmistry) business, I would say the “Life Lesson” of humanity is self-esteem issues. If you doubt yourself, how are you going to trust something as subtle, fast and laser sharp as your intuition for making business decisions?

Having good self-esteem is vital to harnessing the power of your intuition in business. And here’s the catch: If women business owners ask for help from their intuition and don’t listen, their intuitive awareness may go into hibernation. If you ask and listen, but don’t ACT, then you create stagnation, procrastination and all sorts of challenges.

Here are three quick tips, learned over years of palm reading, for women business owners to build their self-esteem and deepen their confidence in their inner guidance:

Spirituality and Business Tip #1: Delete all non-essential email for one week.

Answer only those emails that are personal or business related. You don’t have to unsubscribe from everything or do anything drastic. Just cut out the noise for one week.

Notice your discomfort in deleting your non-essential email. (I receive hundreds of emails per day. Only 50 are business emails that need responses and by responding to those emails, I actually ADD efficiency to my life.) Notice if you feel anxious that you are going to miss something. Notice if you can’t do it this week and want to put it off to next week. Who REALLY has the answers to your life? You or a message in an electronic box?

Spirituality and Business Tip #2: Don’t do anything – and I do mean anything – that you don’t want to do.

This is different from not doing something because it’s uncomfortable or because you are scared. There is a fine distinction here. If you don’t want to do something, you know it in every cell of your body. BUT you may be tempted to do it anyway in order to: avoid someone’s wrath or criticism, be pleasing, get your way, manipulate someone or get revenge. Just to name some of the many methods of self-betrayal that I see in my palmistry practice.

Spirituality and Business Tip #3: Make commitments to your self that you can keep.

As a palmistry expert, I recommend that instead of saying, “I’m going to start working out five days a week, start writing for two hours every day and start organizing all my paperwork every week,” why not commit to: “I’m going to move my body twice a week in a way that is pleasurable to me. I will write five minutes on Friday and build upon that. I will hire someone to organize my paperwork.” Many women business owners in my palm reading business have learned from this tip. By making commitments you can keep, you build your self-esteem, and hence, your faith in yourself and in your intuition in making business decisions.

2 Reasons Why You Should Join Business Networking Groups http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/07/2-reasons-why-you-should-join-business-networking-groups/ http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/07/2-reasons-why-you-should-join-business-networking-groups/#comments Fri, 03 Jul 2009 08:57:46 +0000 admin http://www.coloradowomensnetwork.org/2009/07/2-reasons-why-you-should-join-business-networking-groups/ 2 Reasons Why You Should Join Business Networking Groups

For some time now, people have asked me what the truth in regards to business networking groups is. And I have been pondering on what is the right answer in this direction – you see, there is no precise way of quantifying how useful business networking groups can be to you and your business. While at first I would be tempted to say, “They are truly useful” I come to think that not everybody is built to discuss in groups and make connections. Therefore, I will open this article by mentioning that business networking groups are designed only for those willing to listen to other people’s opinions, to learn from others’ mistakes, not to mention to abide to some unwritten rules of the business networking groups. The first thing that comes to my mind when it comes to why one should join business networking groups is to make new business connections. When you have to carry around a business without any additional help, without having someone to share your disasters and your highlights with, it becomes discouraging. Telling your family or close friends make no difference because they might not understand, and often they are unable to give an actual advice. Business networking groups underline the most important part of being human – the need of connection.

Whether you believe it or not, very few business networking groups are solely about their business. Actually, some of the most dull business networking groups discuss only about business – people are people and they sometimes need to connect through other means than just discussing about their business. Cracking jokes, going out in large groups to discuss different issues can be a great way to make business connections. A real business networking group will take everything to the next level – it will have speakers and programs, it will often take its members out for presentations in regards to methods of succeeding in your niche and so on. Finally, a serious business networking group will allow any Tom, Dick and Harry to improve his business to as much as 100 percent. I guess this is one of the first reason for which I recommend joining business networking groups.

The second reason is due to the fact that you are able to find the answer to your questions a lot faster. I mean, when you are forced to do research on your own, and see what others had to say through books or articles, you have no idea whether the idea will work in your case. When you are discussing with someone that went through the same thing you did, you will find a lot easier to see the solution to your problem by taking advantage of your colleague’s knowledge.

Making connections with people in your own niche can bring a breath of fresh air in your business – you are not forgotten in your office chair anymore trying to pull your business through, but you are doing everything you can to keep it up to date. Remember that your business is like your own child, and often it is better to ask than to play smart and try to find all the answers on your own.

Help answer the question about networking groups

are there any networking groups for building businesses in the field of education and life coaching?
I have bloglogged and aol journaled about how the educational system and work experiences create doubt, lack of creativity, loss of identity, confusion of what are true purpose is in reaching our goals in life. Basically, they crush our dreams and unmotivate us to continue learning. I have blogged and journaled about the resources and ways we can untrain the mind from all the negative learning that takes a piece away from us as who we are as individuals. Learning how to unlearn what society thinks is good or appropriate for us, whether it be school or work or relationships. How can I get people to comment or rss to my blogging. It seems like im writing to myself since I cant seem to reach other via internet. What are some ways I can reach more discussion boards and people to grow my business in this area of untraining the mind from undue expectations the world puts on us that truly are not healthy for our individual growth and self esteem?
